Tanyard Branch

Tanyard Branch is a Grocery Store and Eatery located in Pendleton, SC. Built to foster community and to provide a space for local food suppliers, they offer fresh and local produce, an eatery, and space for events to be used by the locals of Pendleton. Tanyard Branch is built on land where there used to be an oil mill. A major eye-sore, this mill was the subject of negative conversation around the community. Tanyard Branch chose to use the imagery of the water tower from the property to redeem the land which was once problematic, creating beauty and community instead.

Design Challenge

To collaboratively create a visual and brand identity using the typefaces made in Digital Resurrection In Typography Vol 4.

Design Solution

Tanyard Branch unites Cimarron Slab, created by Madi Green, and Chipola into a cohesive brand identity rooted in Pendleton, SC. The bustling small town prioritizes small business, farmers, and community. Tanyard Branch provides a space for all three, offering local produce, a space for community use, and casual get-togethers.

First and foremost, Tanyard Branch served as the vessel to combine Cimarron Slab, by Madi Green, and Chipola into a cohesive brand system.  But, more than this,
it challenged my storytelling ability when presenting work. It was a joy to apply bespoke typefaces into a realistic scenario.
